HERS Ratings

Energy Efficiency Associates provides certified HERS ratings, and is proud to display the
RESNET Rater Seal of Quality as a provider of high quality, independent third party quantification and verification of residential energy efficiency performance.

The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) is a nationally recognized protocol for the creation of a computer model of home energy use that is overseen by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET). RESNET is a non-profit national standards making body for building energy efficiency ratings systems. More on RESNET.

A HERS Rating is a number generated by a computer model of a building that represents the relative energy use of the ‘house as a system’, incorporating the structure, heating, cooling and hot water systems, as well as renewable energy sources. It is a comprehensive and interactive representation of energy use in a home. Much like a spreadsheet, it can be used to perform ‘what if’ scenarios’ to determine the consequences of changes to a building. For the kinds of information used to create, and produced by a HERS model.  See Home Energy Modeling.

Energy Efficiency Associates provides contracting and consulting services that apply the HERS energy modeling protocol to both new construction in the planning stage as well as existing buildings. These services are available to architects, builders and homeowners in service packages customized to the existing situation and goals. For more Contact Us.

HERS Ratings are nationally recognized, and are used by programs such as:

EnergyStar to award incentives for measured and verified energy efficiency.

EnergyStar is a collaboration of the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. The EnergyStar home page.

Energy Efficiency Associates is proud to be an EnergyStar Partner.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is perhaps the best known green building standard in the United States. HERS ratings are used to verify the energy efficiency for some LEED standards. For more on LEED, see the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

Energy Efficient Mortgages - When you are buying, selling, refinancing, or remodeling your home, you can increase your comfort and save money by using the Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM). It is easy to use, federally recognized, and can be applied to most home mortgages. Energy Efficient Mortgages use the HERS to recommend cost effective energy upgrades, estimate their payback.
